Candidates will need to be available in Australia for each stage of the selection process. The earliest possible advice will be given to short-listed candidates regarding specific times and dates for each stage of the process. More detail is available on the Intelligence Officer and ASIS Officer (Operations, Corporate), Technologist and Graduate pages.
As a rough guide, the selection process for ASIS Officers generally takes 6-12 months from the date of application to the offer of employment and covers a range of different selection phases.
The selection process may include some, or all, of the following:
- written application;
- video questionnaire;
- written test;
- psychological testing;
- participation in a face to face assessment;
- security assessment; and
- medical assessment, including testing for prohibited substances.
Successful Intelligence Officer applicants will then undertake extensive and demanding training in a residential environment. After passing the training course, you will have the opportunity to work overseas as an Intelligence Officer.
The application process requires the completion of an online form. Please ensure you follow the instructions provided for this detailed process to ensure the security and integrity of your personal information and application with ASIS.
There are several stages to the online application process during which you will be asked to provide a range of information typically found in your standard curriculum vitae or resume. Before beginning your application, we recommend you print a preview of the Application Form so you can gather any missing pieces of information.
Where appropriate, the responses you provide should demonstrate your capability against the selection criteria in a succinct and relevant way.
Once you have submitted your completed online application form, you will receive an on-screen confirmation that your application has been successfully received by ASIS. Beyond this, you will only be contacted again if you progress to the next stage of the application process.
All applications for employment with ASIS are handled in the strictest confidence. It is essential that you maintain a similar level of confidentiality and that you not discuss your application with anyone, as this could impact on your career with ASIS. If your application is successful, you’ll be able to discuss the process of telling someone of your employment with ASIS.
