Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs is Senator the Honourable Marise Payne.
ASIS is accountable to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Intelligence Services Act 2001 makes explicit the role of the Minister for Foreign Affairs in directing ASIS and authorising the conduct of specific activities, particularly those that may have an impact on Australians overseas.

ASIS operates under a stringent accountability framework, as set out in The Intelligence Services Act 2001 ('the Act').
