Partnering with government

ASIS is a member of Australia’s National Intelligence Community (NIC).

The NIC is comprised of 10 agencies:

  • Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS)
  • Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC)
  • Australian Federal Police (AFP)
  • Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO)
  • Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO)
  • Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)
  • Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC)
  • Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO)
  • Department of Home Affairs
  • Office of National Intelligence (ONI)

Within the NIC, we all have our own unique strengths and tools to help further Australia’s national interest.

What we don't do!

Some NIC agencies can be considered ‘collectors’ (those who gather intelligence) or ‘assessors’ (those who use intelligence to form assessments and advice to government). ASIS is a collection agency – we gather and analyse secret intelligence – often about significant overseas events and emerging developments – to share it with assessors and policy makers.

Partnering with industry

ASIS can’t face the challenges of today alone. Succeeding in our mission means collaborating and partnering with others in the public and private sectors.

For ASIS, trusted industry partners help us keep our people and activities safely hidden in plain sight.

Our trusted partners also come into the fold to help test or challenge our assumptions and ideas, using their own expertise and insights.

From businesses in finance, law and logistics, to engineering, real estate and professional services – our industry partners provide critical support to ASIS’s mission in keeping Australia secure.
