Corporate specialist

Corporate specialists manage and run the enterprise functions at the heart of ASIS.

They bring to bear their experiences from the public and private sectors on challenges unique to a secret environment

Corporate specialists are lawyers, trainers, psychologists and more – all ensuring ASIS is equipped to deliver on its mission.

As an accountant, seeing my contribution make a difference and not get lost in the machinery of corporations or government departments has been a major point of difference. ASIS is a place I have left and come back to – and leadership have always been supportive of me gaining more outside experience. My opinions of how things work outside of government have always been valued.

Being part of the learning and development team has allowed me to apply my teaching expertise in contexts I’d never considered before. The independence, trust and respect that the Service places in its officers has driven real personal and professional growth in me since I joined. I’m more confident in complex problem solving, I better understand how people tick, and I can communicate more effectively across audiences. For those who think your skills don’t apply to a career here – let go of that apprehension.

- Manager – Training

Working in recruitment has really helped me develop my communication and organisational skills in a fast-paced environment. One piece of advice I’d give to someone considering a career at ASIS is to stay curious and be open to learning. It’s unlike anywhere in the APS, so there’s a lot to learn and understand. But asking questions and embracing challenges will help you develop your skills and confidence faster than you’d expect.

- Recruitment officer

As an immunocompromised person, my health condition hasn’t precluded me from contributing through exciting, meaningful and impactful legal work in the Service. I’ve thrived across various corporate roles, and am currently loving the chance to bring my legal background to bear with our operational work.
