The skills and experiences I’ve built through work, study, hobbies, as a parent, and a person of faith have all helped prepare me for work as an analyst – giving me confidence to lead, lean into challenges, bring a different perspective and connect people to help shape our operations. For me, the most important thing an analyst can do is care about their work. ASIS can teach you the skills, but an attitude of curiosity will take you a long way.
- Manager – Operational analyst
I’ve loved the chance to undertake practical analysis to solve complex problems. And you don’t necessarily need an IR degree or foreign language skills – as long as you’re mission-driven and curious about the “bigger picture”, you’ll love delivering tangible outcomes at a tactical level.
- Operational analyst
To be at the coal face of foreign affairs, intelligence and global events has been great. And to work with people with a penchant for getting the job done, thinking creatively and who “get” others has been refreshing. Not sure there’s anywhere else where you can see how “it” happens around the world that close up.
- Operational analyst
My time travelling and backpacking has surprisingly been useful in this role! Having a sense of cultural awareness, being able to problem solve, and understanding other people has helped me when working closely with our Stations. I’ve also loved that you get all the on the job training you need – there’s no specific degree you need to have beforehand! Even if you’re coming from uni with hospitality experience, that’ll serve you well.
- Operational analyst
Do you like diving deep into regional and thematic issues? Can you develop the right leads for the best operations?
Operational analysts do all of this and more – helping coordinate the work before, during and after secret intelligence is gathered.
